- What topics can students write about?
Students can write about the topic of their choice, fiction or non-fiction, and in any format (eg. poetry or play form). Our restrictions are that we cannot publish religious, political or violent themes, so such submissions may be edited or omitted.
- How often is the magazine produced?
We put out one issue each semester, so one typically is printed in November and April of each school year.
- When do you take submissions?
We accept submissions year-round and will hold them until the next issue’s production. The deadline to be in the November issue is roughly the end of October, and the deadline for the April issue is the end of February.
- When was the organization founded?
YWC was founded/began activities in the fall of 2016 as a (undergraduate) student organization at Case, and applied to become a University Media Board organization. UMB approved us in March 2017.
- How many CWRU students are members of the group?
Around 15-20 students are active contributors to an average issue of the magazine/the group’s activities each semester.
- How many Cleveland area students participate?
Also varies greatly by issue, but as a rough estimate we have 30-50 writing submissions per issue and around 30 contributing students. There are often but not always art submissions (~5 students at most).
- Where is the magazine distributed?
We distribute around CWRU and various sites in the Cleveland area, including tutoring programs and schools who give us submissions. One of our distribution partners is Reach Out and Read, who delivers copies of our magazine to many hospitals. We also give copies to the Cuyahoga County Public Library system, who distributes to each of their branches. An online copy of each edition is available shortly after printing.
